Announcing the Formation of the Alberta Men’s Collaborative Society

Edmonton, AB – June 3, 2024 – We are excited to announce the formation of the Alberta Men’s Collaborative Society, a newly established non-profit society dedicated to advancing the health and well-being of men across Alberta. The Collaborative aims to unite various organizations and individuals working in the field of men’s wellness to share best practices and foster a supportive community.

Mission and Vision

The Alberta Men’s Collaborative was born out of the recognized need for greater collaboration and sharing of best practices in the realm of men’s mental health. Despite the excellent work being done, many initiatives operate in isolation. The Alberta Men’s Collaborative seeks to change this by actively exploring, consolidating, and promoting evidence-informed best and promising practices that support the health and well-being of those who identify as men.
Our vision is to create a world where those who identify as men feel safe to integrate versions of masculinity that build on the strengths of traditional values while allowing for the full expression of all parts of themselves.

Our Values

To the Alberta Men’s Collaborative, Compassion is Empathy in action. We value identifying and understanding the feelings and perspectives of all communities, with a commitment to collaboratively facilitate positive and healthy change.

Action Statement: Walk a Mile…

To work with all communities to achieve a common goal.

Mantra: Together We Grow

We recognize and value the diversity of people and the uniqueness of the human experience.

Mantra: Everyone at the Table

Vulnerability is the intentional exposure to perceived risk to develop conscious connection.

Mantra: Vulnerability is Courage

A holistic lens that emphasizes one’s ability to be agents of change through internal resourcefulness.

Mantra: Build Back Better

We value the uniqueness, importance and inherent dignity of each individual person.

A Legacy of Impact

Over the past three years, we have successfully hosted the Love Letter to Men online men’s mental health forum, providing a platform for meaningful discussions and connections. This forum represents a variety of organizations and individuals dedicated to men’s wellness, showcasing our commitment to fostering a collaborative and supportive community.

From Our Board

“I am honoured to serve on the inaugural board of the Alberta Men’s Collaborative. I have been passionate about men’s mental health since the first men’s group I participated in as an intern. Twenty-five years later, I have the privilege of leading a not-for-profit mental healthcare agency, where I continually witness the incredible impact of the programming we offer to men. I am excited to share these stories and advocate for preventative and supportive care for men.”
– Angela Ross, Executive Director Momentum Counselling.

Dr. Harald Bettger, MD says “I joined the Alberta Men’s Collaborative because, as a man who has struggled, I recognize the importance of having a support system that understands men’s unique challenges. This group represents a meaningful opportunity to connect with others and amplify the voices of those seeking a path to betterment. Together, we can make a real difference for men who need a place to turn to.”
